The Silo Cooking School The Silo Cooking School The Silo Cooking School The Silo Cooking School

The iconic Silo Cooking School, the first of its kind in Connecticut and where the concept for Food-Network started in the 70s before cable TV, an institution so important to the culinary legacy of our state that is a historical landmark.

For five decades, The Silo Cooking School was a premier destination for culinary aficionados and budding chefs, and staff continuously offered programs tailored to all attendee interests. As the star-studded pantheon of chefs like Julia Child, Marta Stewart, Giuliano Bugialli, Sarah Leah Chase, Jacques Pépin and Sara Moulton conducted demonstrations and classes, people were truly inspired. Not only were corporate groups able to take advantage of team-building activities, but patrons also enjoyed kids' and teen cooking camps, which served to nurture a whole new generation of talented cooks and chefs! Of course, people were entranced by this charming establishment; over the years glowing reviews from attendees filled the magazines and online outlets, public recognition from television personalities sweetened the deal. I’ve rarely seen such an inspiring venue– if you’re even passingly interested in professional cooking or just learning to make something special at home– you owe it to yourself to experience this one-of-a-kind culinary oasis.

For 2025 the school will introduce more activities, including classes, workshops and demonstrations in the coming weeks and months. Programs will begin slowly and evolve into more sophisticated events. Offerings will include special experiences created guest chefs reproducing some of Ruth and Skitch’s favorite recipes from the cook books and introducing exquisite and exciting new culinary experiences – are among the type of events on the horizon. The school hopes to launch several collaborations with local schools and organizations as well as events, such as a monthly summer community meal, and offerings similar to those offered in the past at the school.

Gather around and start prepping, The Silo's upcoming Intensive Signature Series at the school is sure to bring out the chef in you. From classes to workshops, demonstrations and collaborations with local schools, organizations and events such as the "tour of Tuscany", this will be a culinary experience like no other! Prepare for some of Ruth and Skitch’s favorite recipes cooked up by our chefs – guaranteed to tantalize your taste buds. Additionally, it's a great opportunity for you to develop your cooking skills under the able guidance of skilled expert chefs. So don't delay –sign up now for an experience that excited culinary connoisseurs would not want to miss!
