The Sloppy Waffle
Liege waffles were first created for the Bishop-Prince of Liege, Belgium in the mid 1800s. The prince was delighted with this new creation and it rapidly became a favorite of nobles and peasants alike. The yeast-raised dough contains pearl sugar made from beets. During the baking process small pieces of this pearl sugar caramelizes and form a delightfully sweet, slightly crunchy coating on the outside of the waffle. It’s a taste sensation that will seduce you just as it has generations of good food lovers.
