Located by the mouth of the Housatonic River, Short Beach has all kinds of amenities for fun in the sun. It's an excellent recreational venue for all ages. The northernmost section provides handicap access to the beach as well as tern and piping plover nesting areas. Fisherman use the marine basin to fish for snapper bluefish during the summer.
As you move south along the beach, you will find picnic areas, a calisthenics course, playground and the town's largest sandbox. Additional recreation areas provided include golf course, softball fields; courts for basketball, paddleball, tennis and volleyball. A concession stand and shower located on the beach.
Beach stickers are issued, automatically, to all Stratford residents in early June of each year. If you do not receive your beach sticker, or you are new to town, please contact the Recreation Department at (203) 385-4052 or [email protected]. Non-residents may also contact the Recreation Department to obtain a non-resident beach sticker. Beach stickers for non-residents are $150/season or $20/day for Long Beach and Short Beach.
