Mono Pond State Park Reserve

218 acre park with bird watching, boating, cross-country skiing, fishing, hiking, picnicking and hunting. Bow hunting allowed in the gall on the west side of the pond. Boating is limited due to shallow water throughout the pond. There is an 8 mph limit but the pond is best used by canoe, kayak and row boat. Other amenities: Picnicking

Minnie Island State Park

1 acre park with boating, fishing and picnicking. The island is in Gardner Lake opposite the boat ramp. Other amenities: Picnicking

Mianus River Park, a nearly 400-acre urban forest sandwiched between Greenwich and Stamford Connecticut, provides countless opportunities to reconnect with nature. Its dramatic landscape includes the Mianus River and its tributary streams, wetlands, hiking trails, rock formations, a wildflower garden and even a cave.

Housatonic State Forest

Enjoy activities like hiking, hunting, letterboxing, mountain biking and snowmobiling. Locations include Mine Mountain Block: the most commonly accessed via the Appalachian Trail. Sharon Mountain Block: from the junction of Rtes. 7 and 128 in West Cornwall, turn north of Rte. 7 and take an immediate left on West Cornwall Road. Cream Hill Block: from the junction of Rtes. 7 and 128 in West Cornwall, proceed east on Rte. 128, turn left on River Road. Turn right on Music Mountain Road. Canaan Mountain Block: This block is most easily accessed via Beckley Furnace State Park. Gold's Pines Block
