Torrington History Museum

Located in historic Downtown Torrington, the Torrington History Museum features two permanents exhibits and the John H. Thompson Research Library and Archives.  Also, on-site is the Hotchkiss-Fyler House Museum, an impressive Queen Anne Victorian furnished as it was when last occupied in 1956. The Torrington History Museum features two permanent exhibits (self-guided) showcasing objects, photographs, and documents from the museum collection.  We invite you to visit the Museum and learn about the people, industries, innovations, and immigration that shaped Torrington.  No Place Like Home: The History of Torrington tells the story of Torrington's growth from its earliest days to the present.  Pursuit of Precision: The Hendey Machine Company 1870-1954 shares the history of a former industry in Torrington, the Hendey Machine Company, a maker of lathes, shapers, and milling machines. A highlight of the exhibit is a replica of a belt-driven machine shop.
