Incorporated as a not-for-profit in 1922, Silvermine has exemplified excellence in art and arts education. Our five-acre campus encompasses an award-winning School of Art; a nationally renowned Guild of over 300 professional artists; a complex of five galleries presenting exhibitions by emerging and established contemporary artists; a permanent collection of original prints; and an outdoor Sculpture Walk that blends art and nature.
Our educational mission extends beyond our campus. Our extensive Educational Outreach Programs provide curriculum-based arts education to over 1500 children in under-resourced Bridgeport, Norwalk and Stamford schools and nourishes the creative spirit of individuals with disabilities or mental health issues through collaborations with neighboring non-profits.
Silvermine represents many things to many people. To the professional artist, it is a prestigious place to exhibit—a widely hailed showcase for talent from the region. For the budding artist, it is a source of excellent instruction in a variety of media, and to the community at–large, the arts center offers an ongoing cultural and educational experience, and exposure to the world of contemporary art.
