Hilltop Farm was built by Indian Motorcycle co-founder, George Hendee, starting in 1913, as a gentleman’s retirement farm. Today, The Friends of the Farm at Hilltop (FOFAH), our nonprofit, owns 7.9 acres where the “Big White Barn” and outbuildings sit. We lease 76 adjacent, conservation acres from the Town of Suffield through a 21-year agreement. We’ve been renovating the buildings and maintaining the property since 2004. Our farm is a vibrant place providing thousands of people in the Greater Hartford area with food and a connection to the land, and providing a home and livelihood for our family. We grow plants, vegetables, small fruit, flowers and herbs, as well as cover crops using organic methods. We keep a small selection of heritage breed poultry, pigs and other farm animals.
