Life-size bronze statue of Master Sergeant Homer L. Wise, awarded the Medal of Honor on June 14, 1944 and one of the most decorated soldiers of World War II.
The statue also honors those who served and the thousands who made the supreme sacrifice for their country during World War II and subsequent wars. The statue is six feet and seven inches tall and created by sculptor Janice Mauro of Redding, Connecticut.
Master Sergeant Home L. Wise was one of the most decorated soldiers of World War II. For heroism, he was awarded the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest and most revered military honor. Sergeant Wise also proudly wore the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, three Purple Hearts and ten other decorations. He served in Company L. 142nd Infantry Regimnt, 36th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Medal of Honor on June 14, 1944.
Sgt. Wise was a resident of Stamford until his death in 1974.
