City Gallery

City Gallery is an artist run gallery featuring exhibitions of contemporary painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, and fiber arts. Our exhibits rotate monthly, with each artist featured in a solo show or in a small group show of three or four member artists. Our membership is intentionally kept to fewer than twenty artists in order to maximize each artist’s opportunity to exhibit work. To coincide with New Haven’s annual long standing celebration of the visual arts during the month of October, City Gallery presents a show that includes all its member artists. Consiglio's Restaurant

At the turn of the 20th century, Salvatore and Annuziata Consiglio arrived as immigrants and settled among the Amalfi community centered around Wooster Square in New Haven. By 1938, with the help of their seven children, they opened a neighborhood family restaurant across the from "The Big Apple" building. It was not so much a restaurant, bur an extension of their own kitchen and dining room, serving only the freshest ingredients and generous portions, with reasonable prices. Putnam Memorial State Park

The site of the Continental Army's 1779 winter encampment under the command of General Israel Putnam consists of remains of the encampment, reconstructed log buildings, and a museum. The park is the oldest state park in Connecticut. Located on the site of the Winter Encampment of General Israel Putnam's Continental troops from December 1778-May 1779, the park is dedicated to the role they played in the Revolutionary War in helping secure America's independence. Essex Art Association Gallery

The Essex Art Association, housed in a charming historic building, has served the shoreline area as a nonprofit seasonal art gallery for seventy-five years. It was the first local art association to embrace all styles of art, from traditional to cutting edge. Franklin Street Works

Located in historic row houses, the Franklin Street Works building was originally two homes for working-class families. Today it's the home of a not-for-profit contemporary art space, cafe, and social gathering place, showcasing original on-site and off-site exhibitions, artist projects and related programming. Few buildings of this sort remain in the city and the art space is situated betwen 1980s corporate architecture, parking lots and offices built from the 1940s to today. Wall to Wall: The New London Mural Walk

Walking Tour of Plymouth Center

Take this self-guided walking tour of the village of Plymouth Center, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The walking tour includes the Burying Ground, where there are gravestones of 38 soldiers from the Revolutionary War. Learn about the symbolism of the engravings on the tombstones.
