Over 100 years ago, Ms. Ellen Larned, Windham County's most famous historian and a native of Thompson, Connecticut, dedicated a small library building on Thompson Hill. The goal for the 4-H Educational Center, known to most simply as "Auerfarm," is to develop citizenship, leadership, responsibility and life skills of youth through educational programs. Additionally, the non-profit farm, inspired by G. Fox CEO Beatrice Fox Auberbach, offers a wealth of outdoor activities, including hiking trails, picnic space, and the children's herb garden. The campus is really a small arboretum with 88 species and varieties of trees. The site was landscaped in 1908 by Olmsted firm for the college's predecessor institution.
