The Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary is nestled in the very heart of Newtown, spread over 34 acres of pristine farmland, breathtaking woodlands and rolling meadows. Created in 2013, the sanctuary pays tribute to the life of Catherine Violet Hubbard, a 6-year-old victim of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. Honoring the bond between animals, humans and the environment, the sanctuary works to enrich the lives of all beings by promoting compassion and acceptance.
Visitors are welcome to explore the extensive hiking and equestrian trails, savor the 90,000 square foot pollinator habitat or have a quiet picnic at the pavilion. The free little lending library is also available for all to enjoy with monthly themed books and activities that celebrate the natural world. And of course, sanctuary events are not to be missed! Whether an afternoon of goat yoga or llama hikes, or one of our many free educational programs for families and children, the sanctuary has you covered. Enjoy the tranquility of this special place and the land that embodies the beauty, optimism and purity of the sanctuary's mission. We can't wait to welcome you to this beacon of hope and inspiration.
Located at 8 Commerce Road, the sanctuary is open to the public from dawn until dusk. Please note: The sanctuary is not accepting animals at this time and there are no animals currently on-site.
