Summer Concerts on the Square: LA MANGA
GET READY TO GET DOWN(TOWN)!
The Mansfield Downtown Partnership and the Town of Mansfield host free concerts every Thursday in June and July on Betsy Paterson Square in Downtown Storrs. All performances will take place from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. All of the concerts are free and open to the public. The rain dates are on the following Tuesday, unless otherwise noted.
The 2025 Summer Concerts on the Square will feature performers from as close to home as Hartford and as far afield as Nashville, TN. Audiences will enjoy performances of cumbia, rock, bluegrass, indie pop, funk, and more.
Among the regular performances is a special event, a Community Bluegrass Jam! Bring your (acoustic) instruments and join Waldron’s Studio 88 and the Mansfield Pickers for an evening of community-driven music. All ages, all abilities welcome to pick along - or just sit back and enjoy the music!
JUNE 5: LA MANGA
La Manga is a cultural identity laboratory that is inspired by the spirit and ancestry of cultural manifestations from the Caribbean coast in Colombia such as Bullerengue, Cumbia and Tambora. Honoring Black and Indigenous oral traditions; connecting with the power of tambores Afro-Colombianos (Tambor Alegre, Tambora and llamador) and celebrating life through storytelling and bailes cantaos.
This project is the work of a collective of women artists composed of Daniela Serna, Andrea Chavarro; Katherine Ocampo, and Lina Fernanda Silva. We enjoy creating and fostering a community of women around these traditions using percussion as a portal to connect these universes.
La Manga was recently featured in The New York Times and has performed at Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, Joe’s Pub, Nublu, Moma PS1, Museum of the City of New York, Museum at Eldridge Street, Queens Theater, Bronx Music Heritage Center, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and Arrebato Queer Party.
GOOD TO KNOW:
SEATING: Visitors are welcome to bring a blanket or a lawn chair and enjoy the music with their friends and neighbors.
REFRESHMENTS: Stop for dinner at one of the many great restaurants in Downtown Storrs before the show or pick up some take-out and bring it to the Square (please note: alcohol is not permitted).
