Dine, Stay, and Play on the Connecticut Oyster Trail

Oysters thrive in Connecticut. From scenic shoreline farms to top-tier restaurants and seafood shacks, the Connecticut Oyster Trail highlights the best places to taste, tour, and learn about these local treasures.

With over 70,000 acres of active shellfish farms, sustainable aquaculture practices, and a rich maritime history, Connecticut is home to some of the freshest, most environmentally friendly oysters in the country.

Ready to shuck, slurp, and explore? Here's a weekend itinerary to take you from the farm to the table, and beyond.

Stonington Oyster Farms Apartment

FRIDAY: Settle In by the Sea

Kick off your weekend with a one-of-a-kind stay on the Oyster Trail—an immaculate apartment nestled on the property of Stonington Farms Shellfish. The airy studio offers stunning, panoramic views of Long Island Sound, a private beach, firepit, and all the comforts of home—just a short stroll from downtown Mystic.

Your hosts, Stonington Farms Shellfish, are featured in the award-winning documentary Rising Tide to Table. This family-run farm is known for raising oysters with rich flavor and exceptional quality, rooted in a deep love for the waters they call home. And for the weekend, that home becomes yours, too.

Oyster Club

SATURDAY: Shuck, Sip, and Explore

After breakfast with a view, it’s time to hit the water. Book a private boat tour with the owners of Stonington Farms, who will take you behind the scenes of their working oyster farm. Learn how oysters are cultivated, why Connecticut’s waters are uniquely suited for shellfish, and what makes these oysters so sought-after. You’ll wrap up your tour at the farm’s dockside Tiki stand, where you can sample oysters just pulled from the water—shucked on the spot—and stock up on signature sauces, merch, and oysters to-go. For boat tour booking and availability, email [email protected].

Spend the afternoon browsing Mystic’s boutiques, galleries, and cafes, or take a short walk to the Mystic Seaport Museum for a dose of maritime history. Come dinnertime, make your way to one of the Oyster Trail’s most celebrated culinary stops. Top picks include S&P Oyster, Oyster Club—beloved for their creative takes on fresh, local seafood, including Stonington Farms oysters served in unforgettable ways. Or, for a more casual atmosphere, try Off the Hook or Noah’s, two local favorites where Connecticut oysters often make an appearance on the menu.
