Celebrate Maple Sugaring Season in Connecticut
March is Maple Season in Connecticut, and that means ample opportunities to safely tour sugarhouses, learn about the origins of the maple syrup-making process, participate in tree tapping demonstrations and sample Connecticut-made sweets—all while supporting Connecticut farmers and businesses. Here are a few ways to make the season sweet.
Visit Sugarhouses
February and March are the peak sugaring months for more than 200 sugar-makers as they produce the sweetest maple syrup in the country. During those months, plumes of steam can be seen drifting from sugar houses and evaporators as you drive throughout Connecticut.
Visiting a Connecticut sugarhouse is not only a fun learning experience, but when you buy Connecticut Grown maple syrup, you are contributing to the protection of Connecticut farms and their working landscapes. You become part of the solution of protecting farmland, stimulating the local economy, supporting small businesses, and preserving this time-honored tradition of maple sugaring in Connecticut.
Visit a sugarhouse near you with the Maple Syrup Producers Association of Connecticut's map of sugarhouses throughout the state. Prior to your visit, make sure you call ahead to ensure you can experience the sugaring process first hand.
Shop for Locally Made Maple Products
Shop in person or online at Connecticut sugarhouses for locally made maple syrup, candy, peanuts, cream, kettle corn, fudge and beyond. Connecticut maple products can also be found at farmers markets across the state. Here are a couple places to find local sweet treats.
