Celebrate Connecticut Open House Day in Litchfield County 2024

It's the 20th anniversary of Connecticut Open House Day! That's twenty years of celebrating the unique array of attractions that make the state so special. Check out what Litchfield County has to offer. 

American Mural Project, Winsted

Free admission for everyone! This Saturday, June 8, is CT Open House Day, and it's the perfect day to discover—or rediscover—the American Mural Project (AMP) with friends and family. Enjoy a tour of the Art of Work indoor mural exhibit, an I Spy game, and Scavenger Hunts. Special family tours will also explore the Summer @AMP kids and teens programs (STEAM, Grow, Dabble in Art, Outdoor Design & Build, Theater, Teen Art Studio, and Music) and AMP's outdoor nature playground.

Glebe House Museum & Gertrude Jekyll Garden, Woodbury

The Glebe House Museum main floor will be open for self guided tours with docents available to answer questions. Garden volunteers will be available to give tours of the Gertrude Jekyll Garden and share information regarding the current restoration.

Visit the glass blowing studio & gallery located inside the historic stone church built in 1829. Glass blowing workshops are available for all ages 7 years old and up. No experience required. Browse the impressive large gallery showroom on the second floor displaying hand blown glass vessels, furniture, lighting, wall sculptures and paintings by Christine Chaise Greenwood.

Harwinton Historical Society One-Room Schoolhouse, Harwinton

The 1840 former Center Schoolhouse has been preserved by the Harwinton Historical Society for about 50 years.  See how children went to school from the 1840 until the 1940s.  Many Harwinton artifacts on display.

T. A. Hungerford Memorial Museum Inc., Harwinton

A chance to find out where T. A. Hungerford is really buried! Also come to look at the rifle made in Harwinton circa 1840 in its original case. Want to see an original copy of the first Hartford Courant from the 1700's? We have one! Lots more local history as well!

The Institute for American Indian Studies, Washington

Visit the Institute for American Indian Studies to learn about the more than 12,000-year history of ConnecticutΓÇÖs Native American inhabitants. Museum educators and docents will be offering introductory tours of the museum and replicated Algonkian village. Want a deeper dive? We are offering a museum open house to all from 9am-5pm!

Railroad Museum of New England/Naugatuck Railroad Company, Thomaston

The Naugatuck Railroad will be running trains between Thomaston Station and Fascia's Chocolate Factory in Waterbury all day, with departures scheduled between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Coach tickets are just $10! 

Passengers have the option for a layover to enjoy fun activities at either stop. Fascia's Chocolate Factory is offering free mini-tours and will be hosting vendors and food trucks. You can also purchase an add-on Make-A-Bar experience to create your own treat, or get the VIP Combo package for an exclusive tour of the chocolate factory, Make-A-Bar, and a custom six-piece chocolate box.

At Thomaston Station, guests can get tours of historic rolling stock including a newly restored Maine Central Railroad snow plow. A bounce house and inflatable obstacle course will also be set up at the station.
