Wonders of the Wood Thrush Nature Hike
Join Bent of the River Audubon and the Housatonic Valley Association on a guided Nature Hike at the beautiful Bent of the River Audubon Center in Southbury, CT, where we will look for wildlife and explore some of the habitats that birds like the Wood Thrush depend on! We will gather afterward in the Center’s historic barn for a presentation about one of the tracking methods scientists are using to learn more about migratory birds. Binoculars will be provided.
When hiking in a forest habitat in the summer, you have probably heard the flute-like song of a male Wood Thrush. These incredible birds arrive in our area in the spring to nest and raise their young. When fall comes around, they embark on an epic migration journey back to their wintering grounds in Central America, and we hope to spot them as they begin their journeys! We will meet in the visitor parking lot of Bent of the River Audubon Center at 9:30 am. .
