The Women (1939)
Based on the Clare Boothe Luce play, The Women features an entirely female cast—no male characters are either seen or heard throughout the film. The plot follows a group of glamourous, wealthy women in Manhattan who gossip and scheme their way through marriages and divorces. Though the film is in black-and-white, it is famed for a fashion show segment filmed in Technicolor featuring outfits by the designer Adrian. The star-studded cast includes Joan Crawford, Rosalind Russell, Norma Shearer, Paulette Goddard, Joan Fontaine, Ruth Hussey, and Lucile Watson. Directed by George Cukor.
