Wandering Windsor: Riverside Cemetery Walking Tour
On Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Windsor Historical Society will host a guided walking tour of Riverside Cemetery in Windsor, Connecticut. Part of the Society’s popular Wandering Windsor series, the tour will bring to life the history, symbolism, and stories behind one of Windsor’s most significant 19th-century cemeteries.
“While not as old as Palisado Cemetery, Riverside is special because it tells the story of tremendous social change here in Windsor,” said Heather Lodge, WHS Program Manager. “By exploring the lives of those buried there, we uncover the ways that Windsor evolved into the diverse community we know today.”
Established in 1887 as a part of Windsor’s Poor Farm, Riverside quickly grew to welcome people from all walks of life, including Civil War veterans, European immigrants, tradespeople from emerging industries, and even a brewer who secretly continued his craft during Prohibition.
The Wandering Windsor: Riverside Cemetery walking tour will share these stories and more, offering insight into the residents who lived in Windsor during the dynamic changes of the late-19th and early-20th centuries.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and WHS members, and $6 for children. Preregistration required. The tour will take place rain or shine.
