Tracy Bonham
Alternative Rock
Tracy Bonham is a classically trained violinist and pianist turned alternative singer-songwriter who rose to fame in 1996 with her twice GRAMMY™-nominated debut album, The Burdens of Being Upright (Island Records). The album propelled Bonham into the global spotlight through MTV and major radio airplay, led by her #1 alternative chart-topping song “Mother Mother,” an enduring anthem for disgruntled teenagers of all ages. Her music has been featured extensively in film and television over the decades, most recently with “Mother Mother” appearing in Yellowjackets (Season 1, Episode 2).
Over the past 30 years, Bonham’s albums and live performances have revealed an ever-evolving artist whose work spans genres and generations. Onstage, she seamlessly moves between guitar, violin, and piano, weaving together songs from across her career so that material written decades apart feels like a single, cohesive body of work—timeless, relevant, and deeply human.
Now celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Burdens of Being Upright, Bonham revisits her debut with a fresh and intimate approach, emphasizing string arrangements, dynamic textures, and personal storytelling. This re-imagining highlights her classical roots and distinctive songwriting voice, creating a reflective and immersive concert experience that transforms familiar songs into something both new and resonant—musical alchemy that invites connection, insight, and inner transformation.
“Bonham is a unique and versatile vocalist and writer with much more to offer than just that feisty hit.” ~The Charlotte Observer
“Bonham, from the beginning and increasingly over time, is a riveting, complicated maker of pop music” ~ PopMatters
