Summer Concerts on the Square

Enjoy free, live music in Downtown Storrs, all summer long! The Mansfield Downtown Partnership will host free concerts on Betsy Paterson Square every Thursday in June, July and August. The concerts place from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM and are free and open to all ages to attend.

Thursday, June 4: Bruce John's Genre Jam

Bruce John’s Genre Jam is a musical journey through time and genre. Bruce John is a seasoned guitar player and singer who knows over 400 songs and plays 250 shows a year. He was one of the former owners of Shaboo, a legendary nightclub in Mansfield, CT. Jim Mercik (fingerstyle guitar) has performed with Bonnie Raitt and Ramblin Jack Elliot and studied under the legend, Dave Van Ronk. Jim’s song “Is this enough” is part of the Smithsonian’s Permanent Collection of Folk Music. Peggy Ann Harvey (violin, sax, harmonica) has a long career on fiddle with the legendary bluegrass band, Trevor Holllow, and has appeared on stage with Bill Monroe, Dan Tyminksi, and many more. Sean Riddle (upright bass) holds a masters in music and is well known in jazz circles on both coasts.

Plan your visit

• Limited seating is available on Betsy Paterson Square. You are welcome to bring your lawn chairs and/or blankets.

• Enjoy dinner at your favorite Downtown Storrs restaurant before the concert, or bring your take out to the Square (no alcohol, please). 

• Parking is available in the Downtown Storrs Parking Garage, which is free for your first 2 hours and just $1/hour thereafter. The garage is about a 3-minute walk from Betsy Paterson Square.
