Special Exhibit: Kate as Coco

Special exhibit in the Katharine Hepburn Museum featuring memorabilia from the Broadway musical Coco.

On December 18, 1969, Katharine Hepburn walked on the stage of the Mark Hellinger Theatre and did something she had yet to do in her 30-plus-year career.

She sang in a Broadway musical.

She was performing the titular role in the new musical Coco about the life of noted fashion designer Coco Chanel. With music by Andre Previn and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, the production played to full houses at the Hellinger in New York before going on a national tour to sold-out theaters across the country.

Our special temporary exhibit will tell the story of this Tony-nominated musical, featuring three costumes associated with the production, a Katharine Hepburn self-portrait as the character Coco, personal letters from Miss Hepburn to a cast mate, and other related ephemera.
