Social Justice Bus Tour hosted by the Glastonbury MLK Community Initiative, Glastonbury Historical Society and TALK

GMLKCI/GHS/TALK SOCIAL LANDMARK BUS TOUR 

Greetings Friends and Allies!

GMLKCI is actively engaged in furthering our mission to educate and empower our fellow citizens. In this pursuit we are working with our partners to plan a one-day bus tour of civil rights and social justice landmarks in Connecticut.  

Together GMLKCI, the Glastonbury Historical Society, TALK, and Glastonbury 250th are proud to announce a Social Justice Bus tour.  We want to be certain that this history is part of the story that is told of Glastonbury, Connecticut and America!

The tour, which will take place on Saturday, September 19th from 8:30-3:30, will be guided by Dr. Martha Harris, an expert on inclusiveness, diversity and history and is open to all who want to join.

 The itinerary includes the following:

A. Start at the Glastonbury Historical Society, where a docent will speak about the Smith Sisters;

B. The Old State House, which contains the Courtroom where the debates leading up to the Constitution of 1818 were held as well as Prudence Crandall’s 1834 trial and the Amistad trials of 1839;

C. The Stowe Center for Literary Activism (Harriet Beecher Stowe House);

D. MLK in CT Memorial in Simsbury; 

E. Optional lunch break, with boxed lunches available for purchase;

F.  The Prudence Crandall Museum in Canterbury.
