Schwarzman Session - Unseen Wounds: The Impact of Childhood Trauma on Adult Lives
Schwarzman Sessions are peer-led gatherings where conversations generate collaborations and move ideas into action. Because seats are limited, registrants will be automatically placed on the waitlist and will be notified via email if they are selected to participate.
Join Fullbright Scholar Dr. Faigy Mandelbaum, a postdoctoral fellow at the Yale Child Study Center, for a conversation on childhood trauma and the benefits of trauma-informed care. This session will explore the impact of childhood trauma on adult relationships, emotion regulation difficulties, career struggles, motivation, and as a risk factor for psychological and physical health conditions. Dr. Mandelbaum is passionate about working with children, families, active combat soldiers, veterans, and members of the New Haven community who have experienced trauma. Lunch provided.
Some points to consider before and during this conversation:
Childhood trauma is a common human experience. Unfortunately, discourse around this important topic is often relegated to the niche domain of trauma psychology even as its shadow falls heavily across so many other domains of life. What do you know about the influence of early childhood trauma on issues in adulthood? How does childhood trauma affect adult functioning in your specific profession? What has been done to help individuals in your field who may be struggling with the repercussions of childhood trauma? What more can we do as clinicians, doctors, researchers, and policymakers to promote change?
