Flights of Family Fun December School Vacation Week Programs

The weather outside may be frightful, but the New England Air Museum is so delightful! Join us this school vacation week and enjoy hands-on activities, family friendly tours, flight science demonstrations, and scavenger hunts all included with general admission.

School Vacation Week activities run from 10:30am-2:30pm and are included with general admission unless otherwise noted. All special School Vacation Week contests are open to children ages 4-13 in three age categories (Ages 4-6, 7-10, and 11-13), with prizes awarded in each category. Participants need not be present to win.

Friday 12/26 Parachute Drop Contest

Test your aim and engineering skills by building and dropping a parachute. Will your parachute land in the drop zone?

Saturday 12/27 Slingshot Archery Contest

Ready, aim, launch! Build and fly a slingshot glider with the goal of reaching the target.

Sunday 12/28 Straw Rocket Distance Contest

Are you a rocket scientist? Design, build, and launch a straw rocket on our distance measurement track.

Monday 12/29 Snowflake Constellation Station

Discover the stories of constellations visible in the winter sky and design your own constellation to take home.

Tuesday 12/30 Lunar Landscapes Station

Discover the properties of regolith (lunar soil) and design your own artistic lunar landscape to take home.

Friday 1/2 Balsa Airplane Build Station

Discover the science of flight by building and test flying a balsa airplane to take home. This activity requires the purchase of one $5 build kit per participant.

Saturday 1/3 Foam Flyer Physics Station

Test your knowledge of the four forces of flight by building and test flying a foam flyer to take home.

Sunday 1/4 Lego Flying Machine Contest

Use our collection of LEGOs to create whimsical, imaginary flying machine inspired by the museum’s aircraft collection.
