The Saga of Connecticut's New-Gate Prison
Old New-Gate Prison & Copper Mine is recognized as our Nation’s first chartered Copper Mine (1707) and First State Prison (1773), but those distinctions did not come without trials and tribulations. In “The Saga of New-Gate,” curator Morgan Bengel join us to dig into the tumultuous beginnings of the prison and the experimental way our criminal justice system was established. Countless prison escapes lend themselves to a dramatic story, with meaningful impact for our State and National history.
