Revelations: A Decade of Collecting, 2016–2026

Welcoming something new can unlock revelations. This exhibition highlights selected additions to the Florence Griswold Museum’s collections over the past decade, a number of which will be displayed for the first time. Art that joins our existing collection introduces its own excitement and fresh perspectives. Pairing old and new works sparks novel ideas and connections, which are illuminated in this exhibition through thematic conversations between the artworks now making their home at the Museum.

Grouped around concepts such as “Color & Light,” “Untold Stories,” “Approaching Abstraction,” “Homecomings,” and “Off the Wall,” the approximately 40 artworks represent a range of media and styles. Visitors will encounter photography, sculptures, and paintings that represent landscapes, portraits, still lifes, and abstractions from the 19th-21st centuries. We aim to delight you with these creative, thought-provoking, and beautiful pieces as you discover recently acquired works that are expanding the narrative of art in Connecticut in revelatory ways.
