Join us in this rare CT ecosystem of a tidally influenced freshwater river. The daily fluctuations of the tide produce a varied environment for many different species of plants and animals. Evening hours are the best for wildlife viewing.

Glide through the winding confluence of the Coginchaug and Mattabesset rivers on a beginner-friendly golden hour tour of this vibrant freshwater tidal marsh. As the low sun paints the landscape in amber light, we will watch for the elegant white plumes of great egrets and the steady silhouettes of great blue herons hunting along the shore. Accompanied by the iconic calls of red-winged blackbirds, this peaceful evening paddle offers a front-row seat to the marsh’s most stunning wildlife in their most beautiful light.

All equipment is included (12 foot Wilderness Systems Pungo sit inside kayaks, paddles, life jackets, dry bags, cell phone pouches, and site specific custom field guides) and the tour is beginner friendly to those who have basic mobility and strength to get out of a kayak and gently paddle in a light current.

5% of the proceeds from this trip will be donated to the Jonas Center for Earth and Art for their role in protecting the Coginchaug River and Floating Meadows.
