Monet and Hot Air Ballooning
Please join us for a lecture followed by rides in a tethered hot air balloon, framed through the eyes of Monet! Rides will be contextualized in relation to the museum’s distinguished collection of Impressionist paintings and by way of a public conversation with Professor Carol Armstrong about how ballooning impacted Monet’s art. Armstrong is Professor of History of Art at Yale University and the author of multiple, award-winning books about French Impressionism. The event will begin with a short presentation by the author followed by a public conversation between her and Oliver O’Donnell, Hill-Stead’s Resident Art Historian. Questions from the audience will be welcomed at the end and the evening will conclude with tethered hot air balloon rides on Hill-Stead’s West Lawn.
Lecture at 4:30pm followed by Tethered Balloon Rides from 6-8pm
Impressionism at Hill-Stead is greatly sponsored by the Northwest Community Bank Foundation. The hot air balloon is greatly sponsored by Young Pharmaceuticals.
