MattaTrek Marathon 2026: Shenipsit Trail

Venture forth with Museum Director Bob Burns for our annual weekend of hiking, community, and support for the arts. Whether you are looking for an ultra-endurance challenge or a fun morning out with the kids, we have the perfect trail for you.

The Challenge: A grueling and gorgeous 26.2-mile marathon hike along the scenic Shenipsit Trail, a historic route stretching through central Connecticut to the Massachusetts border.

The Route: Kick off at 8:00 AM at the Toll Gate Road Trailhead in Meshomasic State Forest, trekking north to a triumphant finish among the stunning vistas of Shenipsit State Forest.

The MattaTrek is rain or shine! Hikers do so at their own risk and pace.
