Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum to present a new exhibition on icons in collaboration with CSOPA

The Evolving Icon

The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum, in collaboration with the Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists, presents The Evolving Icon, a group exhibition exploring the art of hand-rendered portraiture.

Featuring works by 17 artists, the exhibition spans traditional realism and classical techniques to contemporary interpretations and experimental, conceptual approaches—showcasing how portraiture continues to evolve while capturing the likeness, personality, and essence of its subjects.

Curated by LMMM Trustee and Art Committee Chair Gail Ingis and juried by award-winning portrait and landscape artist Laurel Stern Boeck, The Evolving Icon will be on view October 7, 2026, through January 3, 2027.

Exhibition viewing is included with the purchase of a guided Mansion tour. An Artists’ Reception will be held Thursday, October 8, from 5:30–7:30 p.m.
