Lecture Series: Venture Smith: Making Freedom Before Revolution

learn more

Nancy Steenburg has taught at UConn for over 30 years, and she has been on the Venture trail for 20 years, first searching for the documentation of Venture’s extraordinary life, and then digging deeper into the impact of enslavement in colonial Connecticut. In the 21st century, we look into why Black Lives matter.  Venture’s story is the story of why one extraordinary man mattered both in the 1700s and now.
