Lecture | "From Puerto Rico to Connecticut: Migration, Memory, and Place" with Dr. Elena Rosario
In this lecture, Dr. Rosario will explore the intersections of U.S. empire and local history to reveal the deep transitional connections between Puerto Rico and Connecticut, focusing on the history of Puerto Rican migration and settlement in Central Connecticut.
Consulting Historian for The Museum of the Old Colony: An Art Installation by Pablo Delano, Dr. Elena Marie Rosario is a public historian from Hartford, Connecticut, and an assistant professor of history at Fairfield University. She earned her Ph.D. in History from the University of Michigan. Her dissertation project, “Puerto Rican Hartford: A Public History,” explores the history of Puerto Rican tobacco migration, settlement, and community formation in twentieth-century Hartford, Connecticut. Dr. Rosario’s research interests include labor, migration, education, urban development, and social movements. Her research has received support from the Social Science Research Council, the Mellon Foundation, and the Ford Foundation. Moreover, in recognition of her contributions to shaping Connecticut’s history, Dr. Rosario was named as one of Connecticut Explored’s 20 for 20 Game Changers.
