12th-century period film about Eleanor of Aquitaine and King Henry II starring Katharine Hepburn and Peter O'Toole.
Set in 1183 A.D., The Lion in Winter (1968) stars Katharine Hepburn in her third Oscar-winning performance. Over a Christmas visit, Eleanor of Aquitaine (Hepburn) and many others try to force King Henry II (Peter O'Toole) to make a decision as to which of their sons will inherit his title. Eleanor favors Prince Richard (Sir Anthony Hopkins) while Henry wants his son Prince John (Nigel Terry) to take the throne. Various plots to force the indecisive Henry into making a choice result in personal and political upheaval for all involved.
