Hartford Symphony Orchestra: Rachmaninoff & Rhapsody in Blue

Clayton Stephenson returns for our final concert of the 24/25 season to perform Gershwin’s timeless Rhapsody in Blue. Filled with Americana and dazzling piano virtuosity, it’s the perfect way to conclude Clayton’s residency with the HSO. We will also feature John Adams’ Doctor Atomic Symphony (2007), a piece inspired by the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the “father of the atomic bomb,” and his profound moral struggles. The symphony includes one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking trumpet solos, originally an aria from the opera. The conclusion of Doctor Atomic is another powerful moment in music that fills us with hope.
