Join us for a fascinating evening of art and history at Causes and Remedies: The Fine Art of Art Restoration, presented by the First Congregational Church of Southington in collaboration with The Barnes Museum.

Discover the story behind the recent restoration of the historic portrait of Rev. David Ogden, now proudly displayed at FCC. Master conservator Troy Amuso of Troy Fine Art Services Inc. will guide us through the delicate art of conservation, sharing insights into the factors that contribute to painting deterioration and the meticulous techniques used to bring artwork back to life.

This presentation will explore...

  • The environmental effects on paintings, including humidity, smoke, and aging.
  • The process of art conservation, from cleaning and varnish removal to in-painting and relining.
  • A visual presentation detailing restoration techniques, including case studies featuring the restoration of Rev. David Ogden’s portrait

A Q&A session will follow where guests can ask about preserving and restoring artwork.

Registration Required: Please RSVP to secure your spot. A suggested donation of $10 is appreciated to support this special program. We can take walk-ins if there is still space.
