Ashford Daylily Festival hosted by Westford Hill Distillers
Join us for Ashford's celebration of Daylilies at Westford Hill Distillers in Ashford CT. When you drive through this community, you will see these traditional orange Hemerocallis Fulva daylilies by the roadsides, and on your hiking excursions near old foundations. But that is just one of more than 84,000 registered cultivars of daylilies!
Enjoy guided garden tours and learn about classic daylilies. Featured speaker at 3PM is New England Daylily Society President Sharon George of Highland Gardens, Scotland, CT, plus ongoing presentation about this widely enjoyed and expansive variety of flower. Daylilies will be available for sale.
More than 100 varieties of daylilies abound throughout the gardens at the Chateys' homestead, all registered before 1971 when their cultivation was exploding to create such colorful, fanciful variations. This is the start of the season when the early bloomers will be showing their stuff.
Enjoy classical music in the gardens as you observe en plein air artist Blanche Serban, painting the landscape. Snack on home-baked savory and sweet treats from Ashford bakery Sweet Lil Details, plus craft cocktails are available for purchase all day until 7 PM. All this fun is taking place on the grounds at Westford Hill Distillers, New England's first craft distiller. Westford Hill Distillers is located on a 200-acre property that has been under the stewardship of the Chatey family since 1919. Wander the mature gardens, and stop in to learn about craft distillation. Enjoy this authentic New England experience in The Last Green Valley.
But just like daylilies whose blossoms last just one day, this festival is on July 11 only!
