Access for All Community Day | Black History Month

Free Admission all day!

Celebrate Black History Month with immersive programming that highlights and honors the stories, art, and triumphs that have shaped the African American experience.

From 11 a.m.-12 p.m., join us at for a powerful presentation led by Discovering Amistad that connects the Amistad story with Connecticut’s legacy of courage, justice, and community. Together, we will explore how the voices of the 53 Africans, and the abolitionists who stood with them, challenge us to confront forgotten history, reclaim untold narratives, and move toward healing and belonging today. Through storytelling, reflection, and dialogue, participants will discover how lessons from the past can inspire freedom, equity, and hope in our present. The mission of Discovering Amistad is to connect people of all ages with the Amistad story, motivating them to act and work to change systems that perpetuate racism, to ensure human rights for all. The Amistad is what is known as top-sail schooner, or a Baltimore Clipper – a recreation of what historians believe to be the best representation of what La Amistad would have looked like on the outside in 1839.

Admission is free, but preregistration is required for the presentation.

Generous support provided by Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program. Additional support provided by New Britain Commission on the Arts and Murphy Charitable Contributions Committee, Legrand/Wiremold.
