GolfWeek.com has named their top ten public golf courses in Connecticut, and we agree they are some of the most scenic, and challenging, fairways in the state. Whether you want to tee off among the trees or cast your club along the coast, there’s a public course that’s perfect for golfers of every skill level.
Lake of Isles, North Stonington
Consistently rated at the top of the list of New England’s best courses, Lake of Isles is the golf course that shares its home with Foxwoods Resort Casino. Two scenic, Troon-managed courses wind their way through 900 wooded acres and around a 90-acre lake.
Wintonberry Hills, Bloomfield
In the rolling hills just 15 minutes from Hartford, you’ll find New England’s first Pete Dye-designed championship course, Wintonberry Hills. Its 6,711-yard, challenging par-70 course is also certified as a wildlife habitat and is considered one of Connecticut’s best.
Keney Park, Hartford
In the heart of the capital city of Hartford, this 18-hole championship course was designed into 1927, and still retains much of its original character. A renovation that began in 2014 added improvements to fairways, greens and bunkers, as well as an updated clubhouse.
Great River Golf Club, Milford
Known as a first-class experience for golfers of all abilities and named one of America’s Top 100 courses by Golf Digest, this Tommy Fazio-designed championship course features a wooded parkland front nine and a challenging water-focused back nine.
Oxford Greens, Oxford
Golfweek Magazine rated Oxford Greens the #4 best public golf course in Connecticut, and although it’s the selected site of several annual events and championships, it’s still possible to call for a tee time, 24 hours a day.
Mohegan Sun Golf Club, Baltic
Designed by legendary golf course architect Geoffrey Cornish, and featuring a comprehensive golf academy training facility, the highly awarded, championship Par 72 golf course at Mohegan Sun Casino features a challenging design that accommodates all levels of play.
Longshore Club Park, Westport
Less than an hour from Manhattan’s Grand Central Station, Westport’s Longshore Golf Course combines well-bunkered greens with Long Island Sound views. After play, relax and unwind at the nearby award-winning Inn at Longshore.
Connecticut National Golf Club, Putnam
The facility includes a visually stunning and enjoyable 18-hole golf course, two practice greens, driving range, short game area, and a restaurant.
