Maple Sugaring Activities in Connecticut

The end of January and throughout March is the maple sugar season in Connecticut! Cold nights and warm, sunny days are necessary to provide good sap yields. Local sugar makers and their many loyal customers eagerly await this annual rite of spring. Visit a local sugarhouse or attend a maple sugar festival to see firsthand how maple syrup is produced! 

Adopt-a-Tree: Maple Syrup Program
New Canaan Nature Center, New Canaan; kicks off on February 3 and runs through March.

Don’t get stuck indoors this winter! Get outside for some quality family time by adopting a tree for maple syrup season! This season-long program begins with the Adopt a Tree Kickoff Event where syrup families/groups come for one time block to learn the process and take part in choosing and tapping a tree for the season.

Tap-a-Tree Maple Sugaring Program
Ambler Farm, Wilton; February 3 through mid-March
Learn the science and history of maple sugaring by being a hands-on part of the process. You can come out to the Farm to collect sap from your tree. See the sap get boiled down the sugar shack and then get your own bottle of Ambler Farm Dark Maple Syrup to bring home.

Maple Sugar House Demonstrations
Woodbury Sugar Shed, Woodbury; Starting February 17, Saturdays and Sundays

Sample some that have been made, and have a chance to shop our Pop-Up Shop for some.

Maple Sugar Fest Sundays
Stamford Museum & Nature Center, Stamford; February 25, March 3, March 10

In the museum's Sugar House + Cidery, watch demonstrations on historic and modern methods of sugaring, along with fun seasonal offerings, including traditional favorites like maple syrup treats.

All Things Maple and Pancake Breakfast Party
Lyman Orchards, Middlefield; February 24

Indulge in a 'Pancake Party' menu available to order with numerous toppings to choose from. Sample a variety of maple flavor tastings from Fat Stone Farm and Lyman Orchards products, plus register for a Maple Apple Pie workshop!

 

Maple Festival, Classes and Tours
Sweet Wind Farm, East Hartland; February-April

This historic farm is offering guided tours, pancakes, live music, children's activities, and demonstrations. Just in time for some cabin fever relief.

Syrup Saturday: A Pancakes & PJs Party
New Canaan Nature Center, New Canaan; March 9

Annual end of syrup season celebration with fun syrup-related activities including tree tapping demonstrations, a real maple sap “boil down,” and a real versus fake syrup taste test.

Hebron Maple Festival
Town of Hebron; March 16-17

Enjoy the great outdoors while having fun with tasting maple products and learning about the maple sugar houses.

Maple Weekend in Connecticut
Statewide, March 16-17

Visit sugarhouses and taste some great maple products. A great opportunity for visitors to learn how maple sap is collected and turned into delicious, sugary products.
