It's the 21st anniversary of Connecticut Open House Day! That's twenty one years of celebrating the unique array of attractions that make the state so special. Check out what Litchfield County has to offer. 

1840 First district On-Room School & The Barn Museum, Harwinton

Step back in time! Noon-4 p.m.

*One-Room 1840 First District School- In the restored schoolhouse experience how different schools were. View Harwinton artifacts. Enjoy hands-on with 20 different colonial toys!

*The Barn Museum- Explore a large collection of farm implements, carpentry tools, wagons, sleigh, household items, and other fascinating "items of the past"!

-Free admission & postcards. Harwinton History publications, maps, and vintage design coin purses will be available for purchase. 
 

American Mural Project (AMP), Winsted

Free Admission and Family Friendly Activities at AMP
Plan a day filled with art, fun, and inspiration at the American Mural Project (AMP). From 10am to 5 pm, enjoy free admission, activities, and the indoor five-story mural that portrays American workers on a grand scale.

American Museum of Tort Law, Winsted

Celebrate Connecticut at its best! Enjoy free admission all day at the American Museum of Tort Law! Come explore everything the museum has to offer, take a tour, browse our shop, and learn how the law works!

Visit the glass blowing studio & gallery located inside the historic stone church (1829) in Riverton, CT. Glass blowing workshops are available for all ages from 7 years old and up. Browse the large gallery on the second floor displaying hand blown glass furniture, lighting, sculptures, vessels, paintings & jewelry.

KidsPlay Children's Museum, Inc., Torrington

We are excited to offer 1/2 price admission to all Connecticut residents on CT Open House Day. We are open for play from 10 am to 4 pm with 20,000 square feet of interactive exhibits!

Living with Animals: A View of Flanders and Beyond - Melody Asbury Art Exhibit, Woodbury

A selection of art work by accomplished local wildlife painter, Melody Asbury, will on exhibit in the Van Vleck Gallery. Melody is admired for her intimate portrayal of animals and following in Natalie Van Vleck’s footsteps she has painted many of Flanders’ farm animals. The Flanders Welcome Center & Gift Shop along with the Van Vleck Gallery will be on from 10 AM to 2 PM.  Admission is free and all are welcome to visit during those hours.

Plymouth Historical Society Inc., Plymouth

This year we are celebrating the 115th year of scouting and recognizing local Cub Scouts, Boy and Girl Scouts and Eagle Scouts and their contributions to community service to preserve local history.  The exhibit includes information about camping trips to Camp Mattatuck, Pinewood Derby races and features scouting memorabilia from the past.

The Toll House and Alley House Museum are open to the public for free today. The Woodruff and Beach Steam Engine that once powered the Shelton and Tuttle carriage factory will also be running. Spend the day in Terryville and visit the Lock Museum and Waterwheel part while you are here.

The Institute For American Indian Studies, Washington

As part of the 21st annual Connecticut Open House Day, visit the Institute for American Indian Studies to learn about the more than 12,000-year history of Connecticut’s Native American inhabitants. Museum educators and docents will be offering introductory tours of the museum. Want a deeper dive? Test out your understanding of local Native American history and culture through our “Quest Across Quinnetukut” trivia game.

Admission to the museum and village is FREE, but donations are appreciated.
 

The Marina at Highland Lake, Winsted
