Located within the James L. Goodwin State Forest, the James L. Goodwin Conservation Center is surrounded by approximately 2,000 acres of beautiful Connecticut woodland.

With three ponds and 14 miles of well maintained trails, there is plenty to explore throughout the property. The trails are popular for hiking, cross country skiing, and horseback riding, making this a destination worth visiting throughout the year.

During the fall, the forest becomes especially beautiful as the changing leaves fill the landscape with color. Educational signs along portions of the Air Line Trail and the Blue and Yellow Loop Trail provide information about the history, ecology, and management of the forest, making a hike here both scenic and educational.

The grounds are also home to the 1.5 acre Richard D. Haley Native Plant Wildlife Gardens, where visitors can discover dozens of native trees, shrubs, and perennials that provide food and shelter for wildlife.

For those interested in nature and local history, the conservation center also features a small nature museum, Pine Acres Pond, and a youth group campsite.
