It’s tree-chopping time! Here are some local farms to check out as you partake in the beloved holiday tradition of choosing or cutting down your real tree. Merry Christmas!
Allen Hill Farm, Brooklyn
Allen Hill Farm is a sixth-generation family farm, boasting a 100+ acreage and featuring a stunning venue and large Christmas tree plot. Not only a noteworthy partner in sustainability, but in offering both cut-your-own and pre-cut trees-with additional hayrides and fresh hot cider for guests too, this local family spot is definitely one to consider for your holiday tree hunting, and was recently featured on the cover of Yankee Magazine!
Cedar Ledge Tree Farm, Mansfield
Cedar Ledge can be found in the scenic hills of Mansfield. What once began for the Cone Family as a timber, wildlife and recreation property back in 1983 has since expanded into acres of land harvesting over 10-12,000 trees. This family-fun farm opens after Thanksgiving Day for not only trees, but for tractor rides and complimentary hot cocoa and colorings books. What’s noteworthy about this farm is that all trees and wreath greens are CT-grown, there is plenty of on-site parking, furry friends are welcome, and they accept card payment.
Evergreen Acres Tree Farm & Nursery, Colchester
Evergreen Acres has been family owned and operated since the 1950s. Like others, they offer an array of handmade wreaths and cut-your-owns, including blue spruce and fraser fir varieties. However, unlike most, they own a nursery of flowering tree shrubs and allow tree-tagging.
Geers Tree Farm, Griswold
Another fan-favorite option is Geers Tree Farm, located on Norman Road, which is nuzzled in the quiet town of Griswold. What’s special about this particular farm though is that it’s well-known for its trifecta of services: sand and gravel, wedding parties, and Christmas trees. You can get a glimpse at its fantastic overlook of over 100 acres while you browse and choose between fraser firs, douglas firs, concolor firs, white pine and spruces, and blue spruces. You also just might want to visit on a weekend, as they have food trucks pop up to help make the occasion more festive and fun for all.
Hickory Ridge Tree Farm, Coventry
If historical value is important to you, then Hickory Ridge is the place to find your tree. This fourth-generation operated farm happens to be located in the “Last Green Valley," and is one of thirty-five towns encompassing the National Heritage Corridor. Hickory’s fifty acres contributes to one of the largest unbroken forests in all of southern New England. Not only does the farm hold significance in this way, but proudly is accredited with the following organizations: the Connecticut Christmas Tree Growers Association, the National Christmas Tree Association, and the Connecticut Farm Bureau. So, if you’re looking to experience the outdoors and begin your family traditions at a deeply rooted place, take a trip here where friendly staff can help you explore their various tree varieties, tree care products, and outdoor decor.
Maple Lane Farms, Preston
Beyond offering lodging and a rustic barn venue for bookings, this 50-acre tree farm is celebrating their 44th holiday season this year. They delight in providing top quality cut-your-own and wholesale trees, and their large selection consists of balsam, fraser, canaan, and concolor firs.
Olsen’s Christmas Tree Farm, Voluntown
Olsen’s Tree Farm is located on Route 49 in Voluntown. Each year they offer a large array of trees and have a little shop to stop in for a nice hot cup of cocoa, locally produced products (like fresh honeys, syrups, and jams), tree stands, and handmade wreaths and kissing balls. If you want to find a quality tree with stellar customer service, try them out this year!
Yetter Road Tree Farm
This beloved tree farm located in Mystic was featured in the The Holiday Fix Up, and is a charming, family-owned farm founded in 1974. Besides cut-your-own and pre-cut trees, their farm also runs a holiday shop featuring handmade gifts, and sells treats onsite.
