Romney: Brilliant Contrasts in Georgian England,” co-organized by the Yale University Art Gallery and Yale Center for British Art, celebrates the YCBA’s reopening with portraits and drawings by George Romney (1734–1802). Fall Into Impressionism | Florence Griswold Museum, Old Lyme

Gifts of the Ocean (Kutah Makooôkanash) | Mystic Museum of Art, Mystic

The special exhibition Gifts of the Ocean (Kutah Makooôkanash) represents a year-long collaboration between the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center (MPMRC) and the Mystic Museum of Art (MMoA). The exhibition illuminates the experience of the Pequot people on whose ancestral homeland MMoA was built. Gifts of the Ocean (Kutah Makooôkanash) presents the historical wealth of Pequot culture, its near erasure by colonial conquest, and its vibrant contemporary expression.

Uman: After all the things ... | Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield

Spanning painting, sculpture, works on paper, murals, and glass, Uman’s vibrant practice blends memory, diaspora, and cultural influences into intuitive, multilayered compositions. Drawing from Somali heritage, East African textiles, European and American experiences, and the natural world, her bold, colorful works fuse realism with magic—merging autobiography, spirituality, and boundless creative possibility.

“Eight Days a Week: An Illustrated Record of Rock ‘n’ Roll” showcases editor, journalist, and DJ Ken Best’s personal archive of rock memorabilia—photos, posters, album covers, and more—alongside iconic images by photographer Joseph Sia, including his famed 1968 Jimi Hendrix portrait “The Shadow.”

The Art of Work: Painting Labor in Nineteenth-Century Denmark | Bruce Museum, Greenwich

Through November 30

The Art of Work: Painting Labor in Nineteenth-Century Denmark” presents 28 works from the collection of Ambassador John L. Loeb, Jr., highlighting how Danish artists redefined painting through scenes of everyday labor—domestic, agricultural, maritime, and intellectual—capturing both the dignity of work and the artistry of its portrayal.

Allison Gildersleeve: Here Somewhere | Lyman Allyn Art Museum, New London

Clinton Art Society Presents Elected Artists Exhibition | Andrews Memorial Town Hall, Clinton

September 22 – November 20

The Clinton Art Society (CAS) is pleased to present the Elected Artist Members Exhibition on view from September 22 through November 20, 2025. The annual exhibit highlights work by more than 30 accomplished artists. The opening reception is on September 25 from 4:30pm to 6:00pm and is free and open to the public.

Puerto Rican filmmaker and visual artist Sofía Gallisá Muriente debuts a new video exploring the life of nationalist Víctor Gerena—who carried out the 1983 Águila Blanca heist in West Hartford—and his mother, Gloria. Blending archival footage with reimagined narratives, Gallisá examines history, memory, and the limits of documentary.
